I was recently asked: “What beautiful and deserted Panamanian Islands should I visit? It doesn’t have to be the closest ones. I’m looking for some adventure”.
4 Panamanian Islands to visit before the summer ends
1. Iguana Island, Pedasí:
Crystal clear water, white sand, sun, palm trees and pleasant breeze - what more could you ask for? You might run into some iguanas, turtles, and depending on the season, humpback whales and whale sharks. Make sure to bring your own food, beverages and a lot of sunblock. You can rent a boat right from the Pedasí port for your convenience.
Caution: Check the tide reports a few days before your trip. The weather can, at time, get bad and you might get your trip cancelled : (
2. Zapatilla Keys, Archipiélago de Bocas del Toro:
You have to get there by boat, but it is definitely worth the ride! A very very very small and quiet island just after Bastimentos. Bring your own food and beverages, there is literally nothing on this island. One of the beautiful Bocas Treasures.
3. Escudo de Veraguas Island:
A 4 hour and sometimes bumpy ride(2 to go, 2 to get back) you will see this marvelous and almost desert island(some fishermen camp sometimes here). Go with an experienced guide. Beautiful place. Again, take your own food and beverages and don’t leave any trash behind. You may run into some pigmy sloths, take a glance and a picture from afar, respecting their space. You may want to separate a whole day for this trip.
4. Aridup/Iguana Islad, San Blas:
Around 2 hours by car and 20 minutes by boat from Panama City, it’s a beautiful island where you can spend the night in one of their small cabins or camping(bring your own stuff). You can spend the day sunbathing and swimming at the beach and/or go to one of the islands nearby. You may take your own food or enjoy the fish of the day they offer. Nothing like a good lobster!
Keep enjoying the summer and visit some Panamanian Islands!
